Support for Survivors

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

If you are experiencing abuse, please know that you do not have to survive on your own.

If you are in a mental health crisis or require urgent mental health help for yourself or someone else then please contact your GP, call NHS out of hours (telephone 111), call Samaritans (telephone 116 123), or attend A&E. In an emergency, always call 999.

There are an abundance of services out there that can and will help you. The following list is not exhaustive:

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC) | The Survivors Trust: These centres provide specialist support for anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted. Some SARCs have Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (ISVAs) who provide a range of specialist support to victims/survivors which vary case by case and are dependent on individual needs. Typically ISVAs provide impartial information to victims/survivors regarding their options, from reporting to the police to accessing other relevant services. I myself, had a wonderful ISVA, and to whom I am forever grateful for.

Want to talk? | Rape Crisis England & Wales The National Rape Crisis Helpline is open every day of the year (including Bank Holidays) and can be reached on 0808 802 9999. The national helpline is open between 12pm and 2:30pm and 7pm and 9:30pm.

Domestic abuse - Victim Support: Provides further information regarding domestic abuse. They also have a really helpful leaflet regarding "What is Domestic Abuse" which can be found here: Surviving-Domestic-Abuse-Leaflet.pdf (victimsupport.org.uk). Childline | Childline : Childline offers support to those aged 18 or under. You can contact them 24 hours by calling 0800 1111, by email, through 1-2-1 counsellor chat. Whatever feels best for you.

NSPCC | The UK children's charity | NSPCC: Focused on supporting children to move on from abuse, and families in caring for their children. If you are an adult concerned about a child, you can call the NSPCC on: 0808 800 5000.
